Paulina Porizkova opens up about her aging body: 'It takes a lot of work'

Over the weekend, the 57-year-old supermodel took to Instagram to share a video of herself paired with an important message.

Paulina Porizkova is getting honest about the changes her body is experiencing.

Over the weekend, the 57-year-old supermodel took to Instagram to share a video of herself in a burgundy and white bikini.

She paired the clip with a powerful caption, explaining that in spite of some of the new physical challenges she has faced with age, she "couldn’t appreciate my body more."

"I was trying to walk out of the water all swinging hips and sexy, but was undercut by the currents, waves and dips in the sand. Oh, and my hip arthritis," she wrote to her more than 983,000 followers.

"I will be turning 58 soon, and couldn’t appreciate my body more," she continued. "It takes a lot of work, especially with the janky hips."

Porizkova went on to say that she has recently started lifting weights, and hired a personal trainer in a "deliberate" effort to enable her body to "work as best as it can."

"Staying in shape takes much more time and effort, but it allows me to fully inhabit this shell I was given at birth, something I took for granted most of my life," she penned. "But not anymore. Now it’s a deliberate decision to allow it to work as best as it can, being grateful for its ability to move me through the world to keep harvesting the beauty of it all. Pain included."

In the comments, fans thanked Porizkova for her inspiring message.

"Yes! Making the rest of us not so scared to get older," one Instagram user commented alongside a flame emoji.

"Stunning and #Goals all in one post!" added another, while someone else wrote, "Love this!"

One person shared: "Yes! It takes so much effort. But girl, you are looking [fire] and the fact you are able to make that walk in the water look effortless is amazing."

"So inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing this. It's a really important reminder not to take our bodies for granted," a fan commented.

Earlier this month, Porizkova clapped back at a body shamer's "sexist" criticism, claiming she "continually" removes her clothing in Instagram posts "to make a statement about aging."

"[It] just contributes to the objectification of women, and presents a highly unattainable reality for the vast majority of us," the commenter added, to which Porizkova replied by dubbing it "true" but "somewhat misdirected."

"Choosing to pose dressed or undressed, for a painting, a sculpture or a photo, is a celebration of the physical self," she penned, adding that boiling down a woman's identity to being a "5'10", 120 lb supermodel" is "objectification" and "describing a woman as livestock."
