Are Pearls the New Diamonds? Young Thug Makes the Case

Young Thug isn’t one to hold back when it comes to showing off his flashy diamonds and chains. He’ll frequently zoom in on his gleaming bracelets on Instagram, or even post on Twitter about his $30,000 diamond anklets. Of course, he’s not the only hip-hop star who relishes in over-the-top ice: Migos have also garnered attention for their diamond-encrusted chains and have even coined their own term for this signature look, “drippy,” as they told Vogue earlier this year, while Lil Yachty got a “Yachty Simpson” charm as a tribute of sorts to the one that Gucci Mane rocked back in the early 2000s.

Young Thug’s recent Instagram story, though, proves that diamonds aren’t the only precious jewels worth flashing. He posted a video that depicts layered pearl necklaces and drop diamond earrings, both of which he paired with a yellow turtleneck, plaid pants, and suede-accented Chanel sneakers that he apparently just got. Could the signature accessory of Barbara Bush (though hers were fake) and generations of debutantes be the next big thing in bling? Stay tuned.
