Pedestrian, 84, dies after being struck in Rocky Mountain House

An 84-year-old pedestrian died in hospital Monday after being struck by a truck in a crosswalk in Rocky Mountain House.

The man was struck about 1:45 p.m. in a crosswalk at the intersection of 54th Street and 53rd Avenue, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

The man was taken to a local hospital then airlifted to a Calgary hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

RCMP aren't releasing the victim's name but said they will provide an update once more information is available.

Also on Monday, a 67-year-old man was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital after a head-on collision south of Rocky Mountain House.

The man was driving south in a minivan that crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound semi-truck around 5:30 p.m. The collision happened on Highway 22 between Range Road 65A and Township Road 37-2.

The minivan driver was transported to hospital in Rocky Mountain House with serious injuries. He was later airlifted by STARS air ambulance to an Edmonton hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The 54-year-old driver of the semi-truck, hauling a load of lumber, wasn't injured.

RCMP continue to investigate both collisions.
