Pedestrian critically injured when struck in crash involving Maserati in Independence

A pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck in a crash with a Maserati in Independence late Friday, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded to the crash shortly after 8:30 p.m. at East 23rd Street and South Sterling Avenue, said Sgt. Steven Boles with the Independence Police Department’s traffic safety unit.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the 2023 Maserati was headed south on Sterling and struck the 35-year-old pedestrian who had stepped into traffic from the median, Boles said.

The crash seriously injured the pedestrian, who was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition.

The driver of the Maserati remained at the scene of the crash and was cooperating with the investigation, Boles said.

The crash remains under investigation.
