Pedestrian dies after being hit by 2 vehicles in Etobicoke

A man in his early 20s has died after being struck by two vehicles Saturday evening in Etobicoke.

The pedestrian was struck at around 7:30 p.m. north of the major intersection of Islington Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West in Toronto's west end.

Islington Avenue was closed from The Westway to Eglinton Avenue West, but has reopened.

Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe told CBC News the man was on the roadway near Deerfoot Road and Islington Avenue.

Stibbe said the man was struck by a northbound Ford Explorer SUV and ended up in the southbound lanes, where he was hit again by another vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Stibbe confirmed.

Stibbe added police are treating the incident like a criminal investigation, although that does not necessarily mean criminal charges will be laid.

No charges have been laid as police continue to investigate.
