Woman, 85, dead after being struck by street sweeper in North York

An 85-year-old woman has died after being struck by a City of Toronto street sweeper in North York on Tuesday.

The collision happened on Tremont Crescent near Lawrence Avenue East and Leslie Street. Toronto police were called to the area at 9:06 a.m.

Police said the woman was walking eastbound on Tremont Crescent when a street sweeper, also travelling eastbound and  operated by a 39-year-old man, struck her.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police's traffic services unit is continuing to investigate and are urging local residents, businesses and drivers, who may have security or dash board camera footage of the area or collision, to come forward.
