Pedestrian hit, killed by GO train
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a GO Transit train in Burlington on Thursday morning.
The incident involving the 5:35 a.m. Aldershot train happened east of Appleby GO station, and west of the rail crossing at Burloak Drive, just before 6 a.m.
The incident caused delays for GO commuters on the Lakeshore West line, with service halted between Hamilton and Oakville for much of the morning commute. Service along that stretch of the Lakeshore West line resumed just before 8 a.m.
CBC News producer Ryan Vella was on board the train involved in the incident.
“We just departed our station in Burlington and suddenly felt a jarring, rather alarming stop, something I haven't felt before,” he told CBC Radio on its 7:30 a.m. broadcast.
“A couple of minutes later they announced ... that we’d hit a pedestrian. We heard that it could be a two-hour delay. I’m still sitting on the train, it’s been an hour and a half. We haven’t moved an inch.”
The incident caused delays for commuters heading in to Union Station from areas west of the city. Service on GO's Lakeshore East and Kitchener lines was also affected.

GO advised passengers heading into the city to board trains at GO’s Oakville station.
CBC News traffic reporter Joan Chang advised commuters to check GO's schedule and leave extra time for the commute.
