Pedestrian injured in weekend car accident

A 26-year-old Whitehorse woman is in hospital after being hit by a car in Whitehorse on Sunday.

The woman was first taken to the Whitehorse General Hospital in critical condition. She has since been medevaced to Vancouver for a higher level of care.

Police have concluded that the woman walked into traffic without any warning and there was nothing the driver could have done to avoid the collision.

No charges have been laid.

“In this particular case, there was no indication of any fault by the driver and I want to stress that because often we hear of drivers hitting things and being blamed. In this particular case, there is no reason to believe the driver did anything wrong and in this particular case, they’re a victim as well,” said RCMP Sgt. Don Rogers.

The police blocked off a section of Second Avenue for several hours following the accident.
