Man, 84, dies in hospital after being struck by driver in Etobicoke

An 84-year-old man is dead after getting struck by a driver in Etobicoke Friday evening, Toronto police say.

First responders were called to the intersection of Islington Avenue and The Queensway shortly after 5 p.m., police and paramedics said.

Police said the man was walking eastbound on the north sidewalk of The Queensway towards Islington Avenue when he was struck by a 2013 Kia as it pulled out of a private driveway from the north side of The Queensway.

A 31-year-old woman was driving the vehicle.

Paramedics transported the man to hospital where he died. The driver of the Kia was also taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The Toronto police traffic services unit is investigating.
