Pedestrian killed crossing Chestnut Avenue identified as 20-year-old Fresno man

A pedestrian killed early Tuesday in south Fresno when he was struck by a car has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner as Ruben Garcia, 20, of Fresno.

The collision took place about 3 a.m. near South Chestnut and East Central Avenue, accord to California Highway Patrol spokesman Carlos Trejo.

Trejo said Garcia ran across Chestnut going east, and the driver was not able to avoid a collision. Garcia died at the scene. The driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to investigators.
