A man was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in serious, potentially life-threatening condition after being hit by a car in northwest Calgary on Friday, EMS say.

The collision happened on westbound 16th Avenue near 44th Street N.W.

EMS responded at about 6:20 p.m. on Friday night. They said the man was struck by a smaller car and thrown "a short distance."

EMS could not tell if the man was on a crosswalk when he was hit.

The driver of the car was not injured.
