Authorities are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Livingston on Sunday.

Officers responded around 4:23 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of North Main Street and Davis Street, Livingston Police Chief Frederick Schiff said. Officers arrived on scene and reportedly located an adult female pedestrian deceased.

Police did not release the identity of the pedestrian.

According to witness statements, it appears the pedestrian was inside a crosswalk when she was struck by a Honda Pilot SUV, Schiff said. The driver of the vehicle, believed to be a 56-year-old woman, was making a left turn onto southbound North Main Street from Davis Street at the time of the collision, police said. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.

Investigators are working to locate any possible video surveillance from the area as well as speaking with witnesses and conducting a test of the equipment at the same time as the reported collision, Schiff said.

“In situations like this, all cases will get referred to the District Attorney,” said Schiff. “This is clearly just a horrific, tragic accident.”

It is important to note that even if motorists have a green light, they should not travel any faster than the conditions allow for them to safely do so, he said.

Police said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Livingston Police Department at 209-394-7619.
