Penélope Cruz made an angelic arrival at the 2023 Gotham Awards yesterday evening, in a white crochet dress pulled straight from the runway.
The piece is a lacy, semi-sheer number with bulbous long sleeves and a high, frilly neckline. It was buttoned up from neck to skirt, and Cruz seemed to wear it over a white slip. The dress hails from Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection.
Cruz, an ambassador for the French fashion house, let the artful gown take the spotlight on the red carpet and styled it only with black sandals, a black clutch bag, drippy, abstract silver earrings with a matching necklace, and some silver rings. She added some punch to the soft look with her signature bombshell glam: a wavy, side-parted hairdo, subtle smoky eye, dark liner, a burgundy lip, a nude manicure, and a bright red pedicure.
The Gotham Awards celebrated the year’s best and brightest in independent cinema and television. This year, the award show was held at Cipriani Wall Street, in New York City.
Actor Robert De Niro gave a powerful speech against Trumpism. The coming-of-age romantic drama Past Lives took home the award for Best Feature Film. A.V. Rockwell, who directed the Teyana Taylor–led drama A Thousand and One, took the award for Breakthrough Director. Actors Charles Melton (May December), Lily Gladstone (The Unknown Country), and Ali Wong (Beef) were all recognized for their performances.
Greta Gerwig’s record-breaking film Barbie was also celebrated at the event, with the director and star Margot Robbie accepting the Global Icon & Creator Tribute for the movie.
