A Canadian company, Taxi, has just launched a “This smells like my penis” candle along with a note about the gender pay gap.

The company has used the popularity of Goop’s recent “This smells like my vagina” candle to bring home its own important message.

Instead of charging £57 (like Gwyneth’s one) it’s charging £76 to highlight that “even though it's illegal in Canada to pay women less than men, the gender pay gap smells as strong as ever”.

In Canada, on average, women earn 75 cents for every dollar men make.

All of the profits of the new candle will go to the Canadian Women’s Foundation.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent release caused quite the stir, particularly as it came just days after the launch of her £5,000 cruise.

Her candle (which is modelled off of the smell of her own vagina) is described as smelling of “geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed”.

So, what are the fragrance notes of the penis candle?

We have absolutely no idea. The company hasn’t posted any hints of what it might smell like online yet, but it’ll be available to buy soon, at which point the company might release some more details.

There’s absolutely no difference in size or design between Gwyneth Paltrow’s one and the new one, so the upping of the price is purely down to the gender pay gap message.

The 25% price hike is meant to signify women as a whole, but according to Canada Women’s Foundation women of colour earn even less than that.

It’s thought that the gender pay gap could take 202 years to close.

The message has proven to be a popular one amongst the agency’s following.

“I don’t have enough expletives in my vocabulary to express how much I adore this.” One fan of the idea wrote.

“This is everything.” Another added.

The Goop candle might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but the it’s proving to be very popular, which is probably why the company picked this candle to mimic.

Whether it’s curiosity or a love of bizarre candles, this Goop original now has a waitlist. You can now put your name on the list to be notified when it comes back in stock.

It remains to be seen whether the penis equivalent will enjoy quite as many sales, but the aesthetically pleasing look of the jar it comes in will certainly fit in with a monochrome home.

We’re not sure about the smell of penis, though, but that’s just personal taste.
