Penny Lancaster has revealed her husband Sir Rod Stewart jokingly suggested he’d “lost” his wife when she went on Strictly Come Dancing.

The model, 49, was a contestant on the BBC ballroom competition in 2007 and was paired with professional partner Ian Waite.

The pair recently caught up for an online chat, and as they reflected on their dancing days Lancaster told Waite that her hubby had felt a touch of the green-eyed monster about her being in another man’s arms for so many hours each day.

She said: "The funniest thing Ian is my husband was like, 'It's fantastic, you're going to go off and do Strictly, that’s brilliant, your wildest dream, go for it girl’.”

Lancaster said the Maggie May singer then asked who she would be waltzing and jiving with, and when he discovered that it was Waite, said: “Oh that’s fine then.”

“But he still got jealous,” she laughed.

“Because he was like, 'I've lost my wife. She's in the arms of another man. She's spending five, six hours a day with another man’.”

“But of course, he loved you,” she added, as Waite laughed and returned the compliment.

Lancaster married Sir Rod in 2007 and the couple have two sons together – Alastair, 14, and nine-year-old Aiden.

She and Waite competed on the fifth series of Strictly, where she was the sixth celebrity to be eliminated.

Waite tied the knot with his boyfriend Drew Merriman in 2017.
