Pensioner Reduced To Tears By Stranger Paying For His Shopping After He Forgot His Wallet

An elderly man who forgot his wallet was reduced to tears by the kind-hearted stranger who offered to pay for his shopping.

Retired police sergeant Arthur Bennett only realised he had no money on him when he go to the till in the Aldi store in Morecambe, Lancashire.

The 84-year-old was then left stunned when a woman reached into her purse to give him £20, telling him: “l’ll pay for that, I’m sure you’ve been kind to other people in your life.”

Touched Arthur said the stranger had “restored his faith in humanity”.

He said:"I were right choked up. I got a bit upset about being stupid enough to forget my wallet. It’s something you don’t expect.

"I said I would pay her back but she refused and said I could give it to charity.

"I thought it was really terrific and you don’t often come across it.

"I won’t forget how kind she was and how much I was touched. She has restored my faith in humanity.

“It was such an out-of-the-blue act of kindness.”

Arthur’s daughter, Beverley Collinson, paid tribute to the stranger on Facebook, writing: "What a lovely act of human kindness, perhaps if people share this we might find her and pay her back!

"My dad was so touched it made him cry!

"Thank you whoever you are we really appreciate your thoughtfulness xx”

After post went viral, the woman was identified as young mum Katie Louise.

She responded to the family’s gratitude by saying: “He was just a lovely man and reminded me of my dad. I hope someone would help him if he needed it.”

Humbled at the comments about her act of kindness, Katie added: "I truly am amazed by this response, I’m sure many many people would have done the same.

"I didn’t mean to make him cry though bless him, I hope he’s OK.”

Arthur plans to donate the £12.50 Katie spent on his shopping to a refugee charity.
