The British royal family just went ahead and wished Prince Andrew happy 60th birthday on both Instagram and Twitter, and to say people aren't thrilled is...an understatement. As a reminder, Andrew stepped down from royal duties following speculation about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and a U.S. prosecutor recently claimed that he isn’t cooperating at all in the country’s sex-trafficking investigation.

Despite this, the royal family hit Instagram and Twitter with a birthday message for Andrew, writing "On this day in 1960, Prince Andrew was born at Buckingham Palace, the first child born to a reigning monarch for 103 years. Happy Birthday to The Duke of York."

As you can imagine, the comments on Instagram aren't great. Here's a sampling:

"Hmmmm. I am not sure this message is appropriate considering what he has been a part of."

"Don’t think this is appropriate. delete it."

"All things considered, this post is a little tone deaf."

"Seriously?!"

"Really?"

Meanwhile, replies on Twitter are about what you'd expect:

As another reminder, Andrew gave a complete mess of an interview about his association with Epstein back in November, where he described Epstein's behavior as “unbecoming” and claimed staying with him after he went to prison for sex crimes was “the honorable and right thing to do.” Truly...no words.
