#PeopleOfTheBrier: Fans from across Canada descend on St. John's for 2017 tourney

Whether they came from as far away as British Columbia or as near as St. John's, fans at the 2017 Tim Hortons Brier came ready to show off on the opening day of the curling competition Saturday.

They came clad in eclectic costumes, ready to guzzle down beer and Screech at the Brier Patch, and quickly encountered much of the warmth and camaraderie that Newfoundlanders are known for.

Many of them are first-time visitors to St. John's, fulfilling bucket list dreams to visit the city, while others are longtime Brier veterans, heading to N.L. to meet up with friends from across Canada they've met at the competition over the years.

There are plenty of hometown fans in attendance too. You can't turn left or right inside Mile One Stadium without running into a provincial flag or a group of Newfoundlanders cheering on Brad Gushue's favoured rink.
