Toronto man, 24, dies in hospital after single vehicle crashes in Richmond Hill

A Toronto man, 24, has died in hospital after a single vehicle crashed in Richmond Hill early Friday, York Regional Police say.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash on 16th Avenue, near Fern and Bayview Avenues, near Highway 404 and Highway 7, just before 1 a.m.

Police said the driver, the only occupant of his vehicle, was found severely injured and without vitals signs. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Const. Marina Orlovski, spokesperson for York Regional Police, said the vehicle, a white 2002 four-door Mazda, left the roadway as it was travelling eastbound on 16th Avenue and hit an unoccupied parked car before it flipped over.

Orlovski said it is not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Police have reopened 16th Avenue, which was closed between Fern and Bayview Avenues to allow officers to investigate following the crash.

Next of kin have been notified.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or who might have dashboard camera that captured the crash is urged to call police.
