Peshawar superfan dreams of meeting 'pure gold' prime minister

Haris Khan,16, has taken to using the name Trudeau and says he dreams of leading Pakistan one day with the same panache and commitment to human rights as his hero — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Peshawar student is obsessed with Canada's leader and his devotion has attracted the attention of international media from the BBC to Indiatimes.com.

He plasters his room with photos and images of the Trudeau family and tweets out Photoshopped pastiches of himself and the prime minister.

It's all part of his dream to one day meet Trudeau and become like him.

The young man lost his own father in a bomb blast in 2012 and lives with his uncle and two older brothers.

He loves science but never really got into politics, until he saw the federal Liberal Party leader in 2013.

"I hated politics, but this man impressed me. Now, I want to join politics at an early age and I want to follow him, because he won my heart," said Haris in a message to CBC.

He believes all world leaders should follow Trudeau's lead on working to end poverty and uphold human rights.

"He is pure gold for all."

The teen says he's not planning any trips to Canada, as he's just a student and doesn't have the means.

But he'd love to meet Canada's leader and get a real picture with him.

He says he is thrilled his teachers, cousins and even neighbours refer to him as "Trudeau" because he says they know he's enamoured with Canada's leader.

CBC reached out to the prime minister's communications staff to see if he had any comment on his ardent fan, but so far he's remained quiet about his status as a role model for the young man from Pakistan.
