Pete Davidson and John Mulaney Postpone Maine Comedy Shows in Response to Local Mass Shootings

Eighteen people were killed and 13 were injured during Wednesday night's mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine

Pete Davidson and John Mulaney announced they are postponing two comedy shows scheduled for this weekend in the wake of Wednesday night's mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine.

Mulaney, 41, shared a statement on behalf of the two comedians on his Instagram Story on Thursday.

"We are devastated by the events in Lewiston," the statement read. "Shows scheduled for this weekend in Maine on Saturday, 10/28 and Sunday, 10/29 have been postponed. We are thinking of you all."

Davidson, 29, and Mulaney had been scheduled to take the stage at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine on Saturday and Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine on Sunday, according to Mulaney’s website.

The postponement comes after 18 people were killed and 13 were injured during a mass shooting, which occurred at Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley, and Schemengees Bar and Grille, about four miles away in Lewiston, Maine.

During a press conference on Wednesday night, Public Safety Commissioner for the Governor's Office Mike Sauschuck said the violence in Lewiston, Maine — a town with a population of around 38,500 that sits 35 miles north of Portland — began at about 6:56 p.m.

The suspect, Robert Card, was described by Governor Janet Mills as being "armed and dangerous." He remained at large Thursday afternoon, as a shelter-in-place issued earlier by the Maine Department of Public Safety was extended.

Lewiston police have posted numerous photos of the suspect, who appears to be holding an assault rifle, on the agency's Facebook page. Police also posted a photo of what they believe to be the suspect's car.

Card is a Petroleum Supply Specialist in the U.S. Army Reserve, Army Spokesman Bryce Dubee tells PEOPLE. Eight of the fatal victims have been identified, so an arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect on eight counts of murder.

The Associated Press, citing a state police bulletin, reports the suspect is a military-trained firearms instructor who had recently been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks this past summer.

According to the bulletin, the suspect had threatened to perpetrate a shooting at a military base in Saco, Maine. The bulletin also says the suspect had said he'd heard voices.
