Phillip Schofield – live: Ex-This Morning presenter says he’s ‘broken and ashamed’ in first interview
ITV has announced the presenter replacing Phillip Schofield as the host of the British Soap Awards, following his departure from ITV.
Following his initial departure from This Morning in mid-May, Schofield said that he would be returning to host the British Soap Awards in a matter of weeks. However, in the wake of Schofield admitting that he lied about having an affair with a younger colleague, he has now been replaced by Jane McDonald.
ITV has ordered a review into Phillip Schofield’s departure from This Morning, while network’s bosses are facing questions from MPs over the scandal.
Former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes has continued to weigh in on the controversy, hitting out at Schofield as well as his former co-star, Holly Willoughby, and broadcaster ITV.
Schofield’s former co-host Holly Willoughby has reportedly “made it clear she was one of the people Phil lied to and [has] nothing to hide”.
The source told The Sun that Willoughby “will return to This Morning as planned on Monday 5 June and carry on like the professional she is”.

ITV has announced that Jane McDonald will now host the British Soap Awards, following Phillip Schofield’s departure from the network.
When Schofield initially announced he was standing down from This Morning amid his reported feud with Holly Willoughby, the presenter clarified he would be back on 6 June to host the annual celebration of soap operas.
However, one week later, Schofield, 61, left ITV completely as he admitted to having an affair with a young male colleague on the daytime programme.
On Thursday (1 June), it was announced that singer McDonald will now host the British Soap Awards. They will air on ITV on Tuesday at 8pm.
McDonald, 60, said: “Oh my god… everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale, so this is just a dream come true.
“I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them - roll on the awards, I can’t wait!”

ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall will face questions from MPs about the scandal surrounding This Morning after Philip Schofield’s controversial exit from the programme.
McCall is schedule to appear before a session of the the Culture, Media and Sport Committee on 14 June to give evidence about how much ITV bosses knew about Schofield’s affair with a younger colleague.

However, in the most recent update, Schofield announced he would be leaving ITV entirely after admitting he had engaged in an extra-marital affair with a much younger staffer while he was still with ex-wife Stephanie Lowe. They later separated in 2020 after he came out as gay.

Before Phillip Schofield completely resigned from ITV after confessing he had an affair with a much younger staffer, Piers Morgan said Schofield was “heartbroken” after leaving This Morning.
In a scathing op-ed for The Sun, Morgan empathised with the disgraced broadcaster, saying that “Phillip’s not the evil monster he’s being painted as, nor is he the angel his previously halo-clad reputation suggested”.
