Kendall Jenner has modeled for a number of the most notable, talented names in the business. And in her first official gig since the Pepsi controversy, the 21-year-old was snapped by a talented — if not slightly surprising — photographer, Cole Sprouse.
Sprouse is the star of the CW series Riverdale, and the former star — along with twin brother Dylan — of Disney Channel hit shows The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck. They were once dubbed “the most successful twins” since Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. But now it seems that Cole’s interests are leading him in a different, behind-the-scenes, direction.
For the photo shoot, for the cover story of the May 14 issue of the Sunday Times Style, Cole snapped Jenner as she posed in bohemian looks in the fields of Malibu.
And Cole’s experience as a star seems to have influenced the location. On choosing the spot for the eight-hour shoot, Cole told the magazine, “I’m not interested in shooting something that feels too put on or too urban. That comes from me and my youth and that superficiality of being seen.”
The 24-year-old was familiar with many of Jenner’s past projects and felt that some of her characteristics as a model made her the right fit for the project.
“Seeing her work, it’s no wonder she’s become such a huge figure within the fashion industry,” Cole told The Sunday Times Style. “Without the right model, these photos don’t live. Kendall isn’t afraid to look awkward in a way that’s vulnerable and inherently interesting.”
He posted a number of images from the photo shoot on his personal Instagram account, in which Jenner is modeling glamorous gowns from designers Alexander McQueen and Rodarte.
A quick glance at Cole’s profile will reveal that this is far from his first foray into photography. The account, which boasts an impressive 5.6m followers, is devoted entirely to capturing his craft. He shared with the magazine how his love for taking photographs came about.
“I grew up in the industry and was getting recognized a lot, so for me photography really was escapism,” he said. “I find great serenity in running off to rural landscapes.”
He also shared that his work in photography has been more fulfilling than his work in the film industry.
“I’m much more comfortable behind the camera. I don’t find the passion in acting that I find in photography, and, truthfully, I’ve been dabbling with the notion that if and when photography takes a more prevalent role in my life, I will likely never return to acting,” he told the Sunday Times Style.
While Jenner has yet to post any images from the shoot on her Instagram account, fans of both the model and Sprouse will definitely want to check this project out.
