Russell Simmons

Music mogul Russell Simmons has been accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in 1991. As first reported by the Los Angeles Times on November 19, a model named Keri Claussen Khalighi alleges Simmons coerced her into performing an oral sex act on him while film producer Brett Ratner watched. The alleged incident took place at a New York City apartment that belonged to Simmons. Khalighi told the Los Angeles Times that after Simmons allegedly removed her clothes forcefully, she looked at Ratner and asked for help. “I’ll never forget the look on his face,” she said, adding, “the realization fell on me that they were in it together.” Simmons responded to the article with a statement on Twitter where he said he “unequivocally” denies the allegation of non-consensual sex “with every fibre of my being.” The Def Jam Recordings co-founder insists the alleged incident was “completely consensual and with Keri’s full participation,” adding that he’s “deeply saddened and truly shocked” by the claims. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Beverly Hills Police Department investigated Simmons and Ratner in 2001 after a woman made sexual battery claims against them, but no charges were laid due to a lack of evidence. Simmons says he is now “stepping aside” from his businesses after a new allegation was levelled against him. In a guest blog post for the Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Jenny Lumet claims Simmons forced her into his apartment in 1991, alleging “there was penetration.” Simmons says his recollection of that night with Lumet is “very different,” but he still offered an apology. “This is a time of great transition,” the entrepreneur says, adding he will focus his time on “personal growth, spiritual learning” and “listening.”

PHOTOS: High-profile stars facing sexual misconduct allegations

WARNING: The details in this article are graphic in nature. Readers’ discretion is advised.

The sexual harassment claims involving some of the biggest names in entertainment are mounting as more and more people are speaking out.

The allegations are sending shockwaves across social media, where the #MeToo campaign has made headlines worldwide.

If it seems like there’s a new revelation every day, it’s probably because there is one. Not all of them include famous movie actors and producers, but that’s where the tidal wave began.

Since accusations were levied against powerful film executive Harvey Weinstein in October 2017, scores of women and some men have come forward with claims of their own.

This photo gallery details the claims and responses of those facing sexual assault accusations in the past month, including Weinstein, Ben Affleck, James Toback, Kevin Spacey, Dustin Hoffman, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, George Takei, Ed Westwick, Steven Seagal, Louis C.K., Jeffrey Tambor, Sylvester Stallone, Al Franken, Ryan Seacrest, Russell Simmons, Charlie Rose, Nick Carter, Matt Lauer, Geraldo Rivera, Danny Masterson, Mario Batali and Larry King.

This article only mentions allegations made against high-profile personalities in the entertainment industry, and does not mention others who have been accused of sexual misconduct since the #MeToo campaign went viral last month.

None of the allegations made against any of these figures have been proven in court. In some cases, the claims being made are being investigated by law enforcement.
