Japan followed Saudi Arabia's lead by delivering another shocking upset in the World Cup beating four-time winner Germany 2-1. Spain routed a hapless Costa Rica blowing past 7-0 to start their campaign while Belgium got into the win column defeating Canada 1-0.

2010 World Cup winners Spain put seven goals past Costa Rica in their Group E match. Ferran Torres had a brace while Marco Asensio, Dani Olmo, Gavi, Carlos Soler and Alvaro Morata scored a goal each for the Spaniards.
The emphatic victory ensured Los Toros avoid any slip up that has befallen two of the tournament's top contenders so far.

Michy Batshuayi scored the only goal for a Belgium side that failed to live up with the hype in their Group F contest against Canada.
