Photos Of Queen As A Baby Among Hundreds Of Historic Royal Snaps Up For Auction

A huge collection of historic Royal portraits - including several of the Queen as a baby and a little girl - is going up for auction.

The 500 snaps, taken between 1926 and 1956, were uncovered in a country home.

They include dark sepia-tone photos of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth I, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne and one of the family’s famous corgis.

The portraits, which were taken between 1926 and 1956 by famous royal photographer Marcus Adams, will go up for sale on Thursday.

They were found at the late photographer’s former home in Wiltshire, along with thousands of photos taken by his father, Walton, and son, Gilbert, earlier this year.

Buyers will be able to bid on one lot of around 100 photos of a cheeky young Prince Charles - which show a striking resemblance to his two-year-old grandson, Prince George.

The lot also contains dozens of portraits of the Prince of Wales from his birth in 1948 to age 12, including snaps of him posing with mum Queen Elizabeth and sister Princess Anne.

Also up for sale are three lots containing around 250 photos of an infant Queen Elizabeth II, including shots of her wearing frilly dresses and sitting on her mother’s lap.

Each of the lots are expected to go for between £200 and £300, apart from a collection of ten standard portraits of the Royal Family, which is expected to fetch up to £500.

The photos, which are all Bromoil silver prints, will go under the hammer at Dominic Winter auction house in Cirencester, Glos.

Auctioneer Chris Albury said: “These royal photographs form a wonderful series of up close and captivating portraits across four generations of British royal family life.

"It is very interesting to see so many photos like this all together. It is almost like time lapse photography following The Queen from newborn up until her teens and later, when she becomes a mum.”

Other lots up for grabs include one collection of around 100 photos of Princess Anne and one of around 65 photos of Princess Margaret in their youngest years.

Royal fans can also bid on an a large portrait of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth with their two daughters, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, which was taken in 1939.

And a framed photograph of the two young princesses seated and smiling at the camera in pretty dresses, which was taken in around 1936, is also up for sale.

The portraits come in various sizes and conditions, and some are signed and dated by the photographer.

Marcus Adams, came from a family of artist photographers, specialised in portraits of society figures and began to photography the baby Princess Elizabeth in 1926.

Other photos taken by his father and son will also go under the hammer later this week.
