A low-pressure system tracking just south of Lake Erie gave southwestern Ontario a good soaking Friday – perhaps too much rain, as it has led to localized flooding in communities such as Windsor.
The system is expected to bring a prolonged period of rain to the region. A few embedded thunderstorms may give way to locally higher amounts, increasing the threat of localized floods.
Rainfall warnings hug the Lake Erie coastline from Windsor through to the Niagara Region, with some 30-50 mmm of rain possible through Saturday. Much less is expected as you head farther north, away from Lake Erie and western Lake Ontario.
Already some images from the deluge have surfaced on social media, showing quite a bit of ponding on roads and localized floods.
Below is just a selection of visuals that are currently being circulated on social media.
