The photos of Syrian children that shocked Donald Trump into action

A suspected chemical attack on Tuesday, 4th April 2017 has killed at least 80 people in the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhoun in north-western Syria.

In the hours following, President Donald Trump’s intelligence advisers provided him with evidence that Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad was behind the atrocity, officials said.

After seeing horrific photos of the child victims in Idlib, President Trump acted from his gut and launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles towards a Shayrat airbase in central Syria.

President Trump made a brief statement on his action.

“My fellow Americans, on Tuesday Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians.

Using a deadly nerve agent, Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women and children.

It was a slow and brutal death for so many. Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack. No child of God should ever suffer such horror.

Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched.”

The British Government has said today that the US missile strike on a Syrian air base is an “appropriate response”.
