Amazing art made out of food donations

Take a look at these amazing sculptures and displays made out of canned and non-perishable food. Toronto-based teams of architects, designers and engineers created 19 of these within a few hours on May 26. These intricate forms, including a dinosaur, a windmill and a loonie, are part of the 15th annual CANstruction Toronto event.

The teams had to raise all food items and come up with their own designs. The works utilizing the best use of labels, the best meal and the most structural ingenuity will be named on May 27. The structures will be available to the public in the lobby of the TD Towers until deconstruction on June 1. The food will then be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank, Toronto’s largest community food bank. CANstruction Toronto has raised more than 700,000 pounds of food for the city, enough to provide 200,000 meals.

CANstruction runs similar events nationally and internationally. Last year, CANstruction events around the world donated over 4.7 million pounds of food — that's enough for 3.9 million meals for needy families. A B.C. event will be held in Victoria from May 30 to June 8.
