For most interviews you put on your Sunday best and, as if at a firing range, field questions about why you would be best for the job. LEGOLAND does things differently.

They had a position open for master model builder at the new LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Vaughn, just north of Toronto. So they invited people to battle for the job. More than 200 applicants showed up at Toronto's Harbourfront to take part in the two-day challenge Nov. 24-25. Their task: to build the most creative structures possible out of the little coloured blocks.

"The job requires creativity and imagination so we want to see you put that into action," said Lara Hannaford, marketing manager for LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, to Yahoo! Canada News. "On top of that, it's not just your creativity and you skill of building, it's how you are interacting with the public and that will also be part of your job. Here we get to see it all wrapped up into one interview."

But the contestants don't get to build whatever they want. In the first round everyone had to build an animal in 20 minutes while using certain pieces. After each round, the judges whittled  down the number until they crowned a winner.

"My life is good now, but it could be a little bit fun doing this," said Dave Camplin, as he scrambled to find pieces for his seal during the competition, to Yahoo! Canada News. "Everybody would be jealous [if I win the master builder job], although you could never complain about your job ever again."

Camplin said he was into LEGO when he was a kid and then got back into it when he had kids.

In the end, Graeme Dymond won the job.

The Centre in Vaughn will open in the spring of 2013 and the master builder will be responsible for developing new features and exhibits as well as working with children. LEGOLAND Toronto will be 34,000 square-feet in size and contain more than three million bricks. There are currently seven LEGOLANDs around the world and the Toronto one will be different because it'll feature landmark buildings from around the city.

There is no word on whether the park will feature the LEGO Stephen Harper doll that an Ottawa man had created and advertised for $50 on Kijiji.
