Norway's striking massacre memorials

Norway is remembering the tragic July 22, 2011, massacres of 77 with a striking memorial. After holding a competition, a committee selected artist Jonas Dahlberg's memorial plan, which calls for three separate symbolic installations. Memory Wound, the most poetic of the three memorials, will represent a wound left in nature by the tragedy. The artist will create a deep, unnatural cut in a peninsula facing the island where Anders Behring Breivik killed 69 people. The second memorial, Time and Movement, will include a memorial walk in the capital. Dialogue for the Future, the last of the three memorials, will look like an open-air amphitheatre, "a place for the sustained dialogue upon which tolerance forms."
