Pakistan mourns first death of female fighter jet pilot

The small community of female fighter jet pilots is mourning its first loss this week. Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar was killed in a training accident near Mianwali, Pakistan November 24, 2015. In 2013, Pakistan had a total of 19 female fighter jet pilots, the first of which to be combat ready was Ayesha Farooq. There are no numbers currently available for the total number of women who are training or qualified to be fighter jet pilots in the military today, but it remains a very small group.
