Crimea: Ukraine's picturesque pro-Russian region

Crimea, a picturesque peninsula in the southern region of Ukraine, is predominantly pro-Russian. It once belonged to Russia and is occupied by people of Russian ethnicity, along with a number of other ethnic groups. As the protesters in Kiev push for a separation from Russia, some residents of Crimea fear that both Russian language and culture will be outlawed in the country. According to reports, Ukraine's fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych is currently in hiding in Crimea.
