Picture of lightning strike inspires creative interpretations

A moment from a monstrous Arizona storm captured by the U.S. Department of the Interior is inspiring some creative interpretations online.

The photo of a lightening strike posted on the department’s Facebook page resembles the silhouette of a Tyrannosaurus rex getting ready to sink its teeth into a landscape of red, rocky mountains.

“Have you ever seen lightning make such crazy shapes,” they wrote in the caption accompanying the image. “This bolt looks like a Tyrannosaurus rex getting ready to chomp a formation at Blue Mesa in Arizona’s Petrified Forest National Park. Monsoons usher in summer lightning, so explore safely and be sure to check the weather.”

Hallie Larsen with National Park Service snapped the shot.

Commenters distinguished many different images within the image and weren’t shy about sharing their opinions.

“I saw a cougar stalking its prey,” wrote Teresa Klein “Awesome either way!”

“I see it as a heart-shaped balloon arcing Earthward,” noted Olga Guerra.

Some commenters saw the outline of a reptile in the lightening.

“I was thinking more of a snake,” wrote Mason Chandler. “Nature is amazing no doubt!

Others interpretations: a bear, a dragon and Godzilla.

One savvy Facebook user even superimposed a photo of a T-Rex aligned within the lightening.

It’s enough to make anyone want to run and take cover!
