Do you live in one of the best places in the UK? It’s time to find out.

The Sunday Times has compiled its annual list of Britain’s most sought-after spots.

The newspaper has listed 20 places in the UK which have been ever-present in its rundown of Britain’s best places, now in its fifth year.

And they all have quite a few things in common.

Britain’s most desired villages, towns and cities tend to be brimming with Roman and Georgian history – and have a Waitrose supermarket.

The Top 20 includes areas in England, Scotland and Wales, from small villages to the heart of London.

Johnny Morris, director at Countrywide, told the Sunday Times: ‘Today, homes in the towns and cities which have consistently been named as the best places to live over the past few years carry a premium, with newcomers willing to pay more to put down roots.

‘Every one of these best places to live has a long and diverse history.

‘While some have been desirable ever since they were built, others have seen their fortunes change dramatically.’

The survey also listed the best places to live in various UK regions – the overall winner will be named next week.

Last year, Winchester in Hampshire was crowned the best place to live in the UK.
