Pipe bomb found at Lexington’s Woodland Park, taken to fire station

A pipe bomb was found at Woodland Park Sunday by someone who took it to a nearby fire station, prompting an evacuation.

The person who found the bomb took it to Fire Station #5 on Woodland Avenue at about 10:40 a.m., said Battalion Chief Derek Roberts of the Lexington Fire Department.

The crews evacuated and called police.

The Lexington Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit responded and removed what the police department described as a “suspicious device.”

Officers searched the park but did not find any other devices, police said.

“There were no threats associated with this discovery and it is still under investigation,” police said in a statement.
