Plane Dwarfed by Towering Cloud of Smoke From Fire in LA County

The Lake Fire had burned through more than 10,000 acres in Los Angeles County, California, as of Thursday, August 13, according to fire officials.

Footage shot by Emily Sandifer shows large plumes of smoke towering over the area, and dwarfing an airplane flying past.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said firefighters were facing hot and dry conditions that may increase fire activity on Thursday. The fire was burning near Lancaster, California, a community near the Santa Clarita Valley.

The 10,500-acre blaze was zero-percent contained and had destroyed three structures as of Thursday morning, according to official reports. Fire officials said a number of communities were ordered to evacuate. Credit: Emily Sandifer via Storyful
