Plans for parkette in downtown Walkerton taking shape

BROCKTON – Mayor Chris Peabody said plans for Walkerton’s downtown parkette are coming together.

“It’s great news,” he said.

That, and the progress being made with three substantial subdivisions (and a fourth that will hopefully come online this fall) should help make up for what’s happening with COVID-19.

Peabody said there’s a “lot of anxiety” about the situation. Especially hard-hit by the most recent lockdown are the operators of hair-dressing salons.

“They’re quite upset,” he said.

The mayor said the local BIA is in the process of drafting a letter of complaint to the province.

Peabody said that while there’s a lot of anxiety about schools, the numbers in Grey-Bruce are quite good – the fourth-lowest in the province. Nevertheless, some, including teachers’ unions, are calling for stricter anti-COVID-19 protocols. For example, if a child has a symptom, they want the whole family to stay home.
