A plus-size blogger and YouTube star issued a hilariously sarcastic dress code for curvy women, based on unsolicited advice she’s been given.

In a Tuesday YouTube video titled “Fat Girl Summer Dress Code,” Loey Lane says, “We all know that there are a lot of opinionated people on the Internet who like to tell us what we can or can’t wear, no matter what size we are. But I can say personally as someone who has been overweight several summers in a row, that I have been informed many times about what I am and am not allowed to wear.”

The Kansas-based blogger with 47,000 Twitter followers then outlines five dress code violations plus-size women unintentionally commit. “And if you’re starting out this video thinking, ‘Can I just wear whatever I want?’ No. No — why would you do that?” she says.

Rule No. 1, according to Lane: crop tops. “How can anyone think they can rock a crop top successfully without offending everyone around them? Do you see that sliver of skin — do you see it?” she asks.

Shorts: “You are completely expected to spend the entire summer in full-length leggings and/or jeans.”

“If you’re going to work out, it’s probably not good to just wear a sports bra,” Lane describes the third violation. “You should probably do it in the standard long-sleeved T-shirt, full-on yoga pants, maybe a second layer of yoga pants just so you’re not being too risqué. Otherwise, she adds, someone might remark — as they did once to Lane — “Don’t you think you need to hit the gym few more times before you wear that outfit in public?”

Tight clothing is absolutely forbidden. “Being able to see your figure is unacceptable,” says Lane, adding that women can avoid confusion by simply wearing a brown sack. And don’t even consider shapewear. “That’s false advertisement,” she says.

And finally, the last and most sacred rule: No bikinis.

“You don’t get to wear what you want until you have the body to wear it,” says Lane. “But then no one is allowed to wear what they want…because everyone is subjected to some kind of body shaming.” And men are not excluded from body shaming — Lane has male friends who swim wearing T-shirts because appearing shirtless makes them uncomfortable.

One person wrote in the comments section of the video, which has garnered 36,000 views: “I’m not plus-size, but I don’t have the confidence to wear crop top, shorts, fitted clothing and it’s rubbish.”

Others made their own additions to the dress code. “Don’t forget to cover your double chin. No one wants to see that obviously…also don’t forget to wear a paper bag over your face. We don’t want to see round cheeks.”

Lane sums up by discrediting the dress code altogether. “Be comfortable, be cute, feel awesome in what you’re wearing and just be confident,” she says. “If someone reminds you of the dress code, tell them it’s outdated…and their opinion doesn’t matter.”
