Pokémon Go players ride Charlottetown bus for free this week

Pokémon Go enthusiasts can take advantage of a unique promotion this week thanks to T3 Transit in Charlottetown.

You can ride the bus for free if you show the driver you've downloaded the app for the game, said owner Mike Cassidy.

You can then travel the city and catch Pokémon characters in key locations.

"If you've got your app open to the Pokémon locator, T3 Transit would love to have you on the system, travelling throughout the city, Cornwall, Stratford, and we can almost assure you that we would be traveling in and around and close to your Pokémon locators," said Cassidy.

The goal, he said, is to have fun but he also sees it as a way to encourage more high school students and young adults to get used to using the bus.

'Let's go for it'

He admits the idea is not his own — he heard about a transit system in a city in Texas offering something similar, and thought he would give it go on the Island.

"Let's go for it and have a little bit of fun."

Cassidy is trusting that people will be honest that they're playing the game and not just trying to get a free fare. He said he can't really police it.

The promotion will run until July 31 and Cassidy will reassess it after that.
