Police have arrested a man they say barricaded himself inside a Holyrood home.
According to a press release from the RCMP in Holyrood, about 45 kilometres west of St. John's, police were called to a home in the town just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, following a report of an assault earlier that day.
Police say the man barricaded himself in the home after they arrived. "Officers negotiated with the man for approximately four hours and he was arrested without incident around midnight," says the release.
The police say there was no danger to the public during the standoff.
A 60-year-old man, whose name was not released by police, is in custody and facing charges of assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and damage to property. He was scheduled to make a court appearance Sunday.
