Man hugging, pretending to know elderly strangers in Winnipeg: police

Winnipeg police are on the lookout for a man who struck up suspicious conversations and hugged three elderly people in grocery stores around the city last month.

Between March 11 and March 31, the man approached the seniors and started talking to them.

A spokesperson for the police said he acted overly friendly, pretending he knew the individuals and hugged them.

During the conversation, police say the man learned personal information about each of the elderly people.

The incidents took place at various grocery stores in the north and south ends of the city.

Police say the man is around 45 or 50 years old, standing between five feet, eight inches and six feet tall. He has short, dark hair and was unshaven.

Anyone with information to help find him is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-2857 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
