LONDON, Ont. — Police say they have charged eight people after a New Year's Eve gathering in London, Ont., violated rules aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Police say they found "a number of people" inside and outside a house, and alleged none of them were wearing masks.

The force said there were more than five people inside the residence, more outside, and only one of them lived at the home.

Police say they charged a 20-year-old from London for hosting and participating in an indoor gathering contrary to the Reopening Ontario Act.

They say they also charged six other people aged 18 to 20 years old from London, and one man from Newmarket, Ont., for allegedly participating in the gathering.
