Police charge man with murder after Marriott hotel shooting

Police have charged a 20-year-old man with first-degree murder in connection with last month's deadly shooting outside the Marriott hotel near Bay and Dundas streets in downtown Toronto.

Police say Ayub Hirsi Ali of Toronto was arrested by the guns and gangs unit Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Police had issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest. He appeared in court Sunday morning at Old City Hall.

The man is suspected of being linked to the deadly shooting at Bay Street and Dundas Street West on Aug. 9 in Toronto. The incident claimed the life of 27-year-old Kabil Abdulkhadir of Toronto. He was pronounced dead at the scene by police just outside the Marriott hotel in downtown Toronto.

Another man, 25-year-old Mohamud Abdiwali Dirie of Toronto, was also charged with first-degree murder in relation to the incident after he surrendered to police Aug. 22.
