Police charge Windsor trucking company owner with fraud

Windsor, Ont. police make arrest in 1990 sex-assault case

Two people from Lakeshore are facing fraud related charges for their role in a scam that involved them selling dump trucks and then reporting them stolen.

After a five-month investigation by Windsor Police's financial crimes unit, investigators say a trucking company owner collected $375,000 in vehicle sales and insurance claims.

The owner is believed to have sold at least six dump trucks to other trucking companies before reporting them stolen.

The investigation began when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered a stolen dump truck being imported into the U.S by a Windsor truck driver. Investigators eventually found more vehicles involved in the scam dating back to November 2014.

Police are still looking for the trucking company owner, who is wanted on four counts of fraud over $5000. He is also wanted on a warrant for breach of recognizance for failing to sign in at Windsor Police headquarters.

A woman who was also involved turned herself in to Windsor police, according to Const. Andrew Drouillard. She has been charged with two counts of creating forged documents.
