Suspect arrested after Dartmouth High weapons complaint
Halifax Regional Police have a 15-year-old suspect in custody and say no one was injured after a weapons complaint Wednesday at Dartmouth High School.
Police said an imitation handgun was recovered from the scene and charges are expected.
Victoria Road has reopened.
A lockdown began at the school shortly before classes were scheduled to be dismissed for the day at 3:05 p.m., meaning students had to stay in their classrooms with the doors locked and lights off.
The lockdown was lifted at 5:25 p.m., the Halifax Regional Centre for Education tweeted.
Parents gathered at the gymnasium at the nearby Zatzman Sportsplex to wait for their children, the facility confirmed to CBC News.
Aislin Philips MacKenzie, a Grade 10 student at Dartmouth High, said the three hours of lockdown were "a little scary."
"A lot of people were cracking jokes to try and lighten up the mood. It was a really difficult experience, I have to say, but we made it through," Philips MacKenzie said.
