Calgary police are now investigating the death of a man who fell from a car on Tuesday as a homicide.

It's not known at this time whether the man was pushed from the vehicle or fell out of it, nor whether he had injuries prior to leaving the car.

Police say an autopsy will be completed today.

The incident occurred at a red light at the intersection of Memorial Drive and 36th Street S.E. around 8:50 a.m. Police say the car involved may have been a 2019 or 2020 Volkswagen Jetta.

"The surrounding intersection was busy at the time of the incident and it is likely that witnesses can help to identify the vehicle involved," said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the homicide unit in a news release.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured the vehicle or its licence plate on a dash cam is asked to come forward. Sometimes even the smallest amount of information is crucial in helping us solve these types of investigations."

This would be Calgary's 27th homicide of the year.
