Police fired tear gas in an attempt to disperse protesters in Montreal on May 1 during anti-capitalism demonstrations.

Media citing police reported the protests near Place du Canada in downtown Montreal turned violent with demonstrators throwing rocks and officers using “chemical irritants” to control the crowd.
