Donny Ouimette, Ryan Hind ID'd as men shot at Toronto McDonald's
Donny Ouimette and Ryan Hind have been identified as the two men who were shot and killed by an armed security guard at a Danforth Avenue McDonald's, Toronto police said Monday.
The two men were shot around 3 a.m. on Saturday by an armed security guard after a "significant physical altercation." Police said the guard — who was at the restaurant picking up food — fired his weapon multiple times near the restaurant's main counter.Sources told CBC News it appears that one of the two men reached for the guard's gun during the altercation.
Ouimette, 25, and Hind, 39, were both pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem investigation confirmed gunshot wounds killed them.
Police are not seeking any additional suspects, and say the security guard, who has not been named, is co-operating with the investigation. He suffered a minor injury in the incident.
CBC News has learned the security guard was an employee of GardaWorld. He had been working at a nearby TTC station on the weekend.
Craig Penney, the guard's lawyer, told The Canadian Press his client is "grateful to be recovering from his injuries," is "appreciative of the way in which the police are dealing with the matter" and "is thankful to his company for supporting him."
Penney said the gun involved in the shooting was both legal and lawfully possessed.
The restaurant has reopened. On Monday, a sign and flowers had been left inside, referring to Ouimette's death.
Ouimette's family told CBC News he was the father of a young boy. The family said it was in the midst of making funeral arrangements.
Hind's family said he was a loving brother, son and uncle.
No charges have been laid in connection with the shooting at this time.
The investigation continues and police are reviewing surveillance video. Police are urging anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
