Police identify male victim in Riverdale-area homicide

Woman, 59, ID'd as 2nd victim in Riverdale-area double homicide

Toronto police have released the name of one victim after a man was fatally shot and a woman found dead in the Riverdale area on Monday.

Police have identified the man as Abdiqani Abshir, 24, of Toronto.

Officers were first called to the intersection of Logan Avenue and Gerrard Street East just before midnight on Monday and found a man, now known to be Abshir, in a vehicle with severe gunshot wounds and without vital signs.

Police said the man was en route to hospital in a car after he was shot, but that car stopped and someone called emergency services.

Paramedics rushed the man to hospital in life-threatening condition, and he later died.

A short time later, at 12:18 a.m. Tuesday, paramedics were called to a house on Cavell Avenue, a short side street that runs near the intersection of Danforth and Pape avenues, for a person without vital signs.

They found a woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said earlier this week that they are treating the two deaths as "a single homicide." The investigation into the woman's death is ongoing, and her identity has not been released.
